Functional overloads and habits
Repetitive habits such as chewing on the lip or cheek, unconscious teeth clenching, or excessive gum chewing can lead to overloading of the temporomandibular joint and the masticatory muscles. Such functional overloads often remain unnoticed for a long time but can lead to discomfort in the jaw area and may necessitate splint therapy. Early diagnosis helps to specifically prevent consequential damage.
Teeth grinding (bruxism)
Many people clench or grind their teeth not only at night but also during the day—often stress-related and unconsciously. Treatment typically involves a custom-made plastic splint.
It reliably protects the teeth from wear and overloading, while also helping to relieve the masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint and reduce harmful movement patterns.
Bite anomalies
A bite anomaly refers to a condition in which the teeth and/or jaws are not in a harmonious relationship with each other. This can lead to functional disorders and cause discomfort in the temporomandibular joint as well as the masticatory muscles. Early dental assessment and targeted treatment are recommended in such cases.
